Work Christmas functions: Being a Bible Student (unbaptized)
by rulehayl inhi all,i have been studying with the witnesses for more than 6 months and regularly attend both midweek & weekend meetings, and i am nearly at the end of the "bible teach" book.
my boss is adamant i attend team christmas functions.
she knows about my studying and potential baptism next year, and has suggested that i attend and just not participate in activities like kris kringle.

Hellaby UK circuit A$$emb£y this Sunday
by punkofnice inmy spies tell me that the attendance for hellaby this last sunday was only 600.. that's all i know.
i imagine some on here have perhaps some more insights into why.
however, it seems rather low, don't you think?.

I believe there was an assembly there the Sunday before too? ... So it could have been split?

by floridaborn inso i've been a lurked on this site for about 15 years, thank goodness for dial up internet.... anyway my fade has been working off and on for that long but my whole family is still in including my kid.
at this point i have started dating a worldly person.
he is wiling to put onthe facade of being a witness so i don't have to lose my family.

Really floridaborn? You really think you partner could pass himself off as JW? Really?
I'm sorry, but I think you need to find another way. You will get rumbled, then what? I honestly think it better to continue your fade and find some other way out.
I'm only saying this as a 'worldly' person. Save yourself extra grief, find another way, it won't work.
Much love & best wishes, Miss W

New "paradise" video preview? "Will you be there?"
by stuckinarut2 inmy wife (unstuck) just saw a new 2-3 min video in her ex jw facebook feed, depicting a "paradise" scene preview.. it was complete with aerial shots and slow motion montages, with moving music.. scriptures were quoted across the screen, such as rev 21:3,4. i shazamed the music, and it came from another "worldly" album called "world of dreams.future world music" (you should see the song titles from that album!).
is it an official wt video, or some private persons production?.
if it is official, they seem to have once again resorted to desperate emotional manipulation tactics..... anyone else know?

Confused trying to understand JW GF or soon to be EX
by James87 ini dont know where to start so why not at the beginning.
i was seeing this girl and we hit it off great chemistry.
it went from a physical to a deeper relationship.

James87,
To be brutally honest, Yes, you are fighting a loosing battle. I know. I'm right there with you.
Its easy to say walk away, not so easy to do, I know.
I am afraid that until or if the veil of JW is lifted from you're GF by her own hand, there is not a damn thing you can do. Do you wait? Or walk? Who knows. Only you can make the decision. The more you fight, the harder the battle. I know.
I am assuming that she has been told not to 'associate' with you. So in her mind she is fighting a battle of her own. The constant flip flopping is wearing and so frustrating, you think you're getting somewhere, then WHAM! The guilt kicks in.
My way? For now, I wait. I listen. I talk. I'm there. I am the bad association.
I have no advice for you because I am in a similar situation. But I send my best wishes. Love is a funny funny thing.

The Son of God? An Atheists view please.
by Miss Worldly inplease bare with me on this.. firstly, i do not intend to cause offence to anyone.
i apologise if what i am saying is blasphemous to some.
i appreciate your views and mine may differ.

Please bare with me on this.
Firstly, I do not intend to cause offence to anyone. I apologise if what I am saying is blasphemous to some. I appreciate your views and mine may differ. I was just wondering, if you are an Atheist, for what reason do you think the bible was written?
My view? I have come to two conclusions. 1- The bible was written to frighten or control men by men who wanted that control. The whole thing is made up stories to aid a monumental control of the people in a time when no other sources of information were available.
Or 2- Jesus did exist. A man who either wanted power over people or had some sort of psychosis or other mental health problem that lead him to believe he was the son of the creator of all things. In a time when no one knew any better, people believed him, loved or feared him. Maybe even a hereditary condition passed on from his mother as she believed he was the son of God.
If someone today believes they are the son of God or Satan or whoever, no one would believe them. They would be treated for mental illness.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my uneducated random musings. Miss W.

Well, the Apostasy Accusations Begins...
by Sorry inso, it finally happened.
the first time i have been called out for being an apostate.
it started out innocently enough: my family and i were watching a tv show.

Ok Sorry, like the others have said, please be careful how you attack this. And do please remember they are still your parents. But......
.... If Thanksgiving is so awful because it celebrates 'getting rid of the Indians' wiping them out? Know where I'm going with this? ....
.....*scratches head .... Isn't that the same thing that JWs are waiting for? For a whole race to be wiped out? ?
..... Just saying.

This may be a crazy question, but it popped in my head and won't leave. . So I gotta ask. . .
by Miss Worldly inok, this probably applies to most faith systems that believe in any sort of afterlife, but i would like to know what sort of explanation the jw's would come up with for this little problem, you know, after armageddon on earthly paradise.
sorry if i sound dumb, but it's been nagging at me for a few weeks and have to ask.. so, what if a young married jw couple are living their life, waiting for the big a, knowing they will be together in the earthly paradise, then very sadly one of them dies.
from what i know, if a jw dies, that's it.

That is my point exactly Ucantnome. It would be devastating, But if the memory is wiped, how cruel is that! I really can't comprehend how this would be OK and to accept and believe it. How can anyone think it's ok to know you will not remember your loved ones?
Flipper Thank you, I appreciate your brutal honesty! Haha! During my time lurking around here I have read a lot of your posts and admire your knowledge and I have learnt a lot.
I do not fret over these things, I guess you could say I'm a complete heathen really! I do not believe in resurrection, I don't not believe in Armageddon, (If there ever was to be an Armageddon I do think it would be entirely man made and would not pick or choose who to save). I just wanted to get a JW perspective on what a JW 'truly' believes would happen in this situation. . . I have come to the conclusion that it's open to interpretation. I did not expect so many conflicting answers! Although, maybe I should have. As the WTS seems to flip flop constantly. . One hand not knowing what the other is doing? Miss W.
